Live location sharing

Live location sharing lets someone watch your position move on a map in real time — to meet up, stay safe on a trip, or let family know you’re on your way. Share from the free app (it keeps going in the background) or straight from this browser, and send a link that opens on any phone or computer. No account, and it stops the moment you do.

Android · shares in the background, even with the screen off.

When you start sharing you get a link. Anyone you send it to opens it in their browser and watches your location move on a map live — no app and no account needed to watch.

What is live location sharing?

Live location sharing broadcasts your current position to a private link that keeps updating as you move, so the person you share with sees a live dot on a map instead of a one-time pin. It’s built for short, intentional sharing — meeting up, a night out, a road trip, or letting someone know you arrived safely. Unlike a static shared location, which captures a single spot, a live link follows you until the timer ends or you stop.

How to share your live location

  1. Install the free My Location app and open it.
  2. Tap Share live location, choose who can see it (just friends, or anyone with the link) and how long — 15 minutes up to several hours.
  3. Send the link by message, chat or email. The app keeps sharing in the background — even with the screen off — until the timer ends or you tap stop.

Prefer not to install? Share from your browser

You don’t need the app to try it. Open share my live location, pick a duration and tap share, and you’ll get the same kind of link to send. Browser sharing runs while the tab is open (a great fit for a quick one-off), while the app is the way to share in the background on longer trips.

How to view someone’s live location

  1. Open the link they sent you — it works in any browser, on any phone or computer, with no app or sign-in.
  2. You’ll see their position on a map, updating automatically every few seconds.
  3. When they stop sharing or the timer runs out, the dot goes offline and the link expires. You can also paste a link here to view it.

Is live location sharing private?

Yes. Sharing only starts when you choose it, your live position is visible only to people who have the link, and you can share for as little as 15 minutes. The moment you stop — or the timer ends — the location goes offline and is deleted automatically, so a parked-car or home address can’t linger. Nothing is posted publicly or indexed by search engines.

Frequently asked questions

Is live location sharing free?

Yes. Sharing from the browser and from the app is completely free, with no account required. The app offers extras like longer durations and sharing with friends by name.

Does the other person need the app to see my live location?

No. The link you send opens in any browser on any device and shows your location on a live map — no app and no account to watch. The app mainly helps the person who is sharing (it keeps broadcasting in the background).

How long does live sharing last?

You choose — from 15 minutes up to several hours from the browser, or up to 24 hours in the app. It stops automatically when the timer ends or as soon as you stop sharing.

Can I share my live location on an iPhone?

You can open and watch any live link on iPhone in Safari, and you can share from the browser on iPhone too (keep the tab open). Background sharing with the screen off is currently the Android app.

Who can see my live location?

Only people you send the link to. The link isn’t listed or indexed, updates stop the instant you stop sharing, and all data is deleted automatically when the session ends.
